"Diamond Fuji"

Yesterday, saw "Diamond Fuji" in Hayama. This phenomena occurs when the sun sets directly behind Mt. Fuji's summit and only happens a couple of times a year. With all the sad news since the March 11th earthquake in Tohoku, it was a beautiful sight to see and filled me with hope that Japan will be able to overcome all the challenges it faces. If you want to climb Mt. Fuji, then you'll have to go in, or close to, summer. It won't be open for clbniimg in winter.For the most up-to-date info., I highly recommend getting a copy of the book "Lonely Planet Japan". You can look up Mt. Fuji and it will give you all the pertinent information.It is definitely accesible from Tokyo by various means. You can take the shinkansen (bullet train), a variety of local trains, and there are likely bus trips too. It could take from an hour to a few hours to get there. Check the book.
